Infrared Ovens Installation
The Challenge
Our ongoing customer, Colorcote was successfully accepted in the GIDI Fund Programme that seeks to accelerate the reduction of New Zealand’s carbon emissions through energy efficiency and fuel switching. They required support with consultation, technical guidance & fulfilment of works to remove their aging Industrial gas-powered ovens & install new Electric-Infrared Ovens.
Our Solution
Two years of design, planning & project management culminated in a 5-week shutdown to execute the project.
Components of the project included the design & procurement of two 2500Amp MSB’s, construction of two 7-metre MCC’s in our workshop, installation 3 Tonne’s of cabling including 3700m of 500mm2 Flexible Aluminum cable & 1500m of 50mm2 Flexible Copper cable & the coordination of multiple teams of contractors.
Surrounding enabling works for the project included the installation of various equipment, including an RTO, Cooling Tower, two 1.5MVA Transformer connections, supply and design of two 2500Amp MSB’s, Ex-Paint coater room upgrade & all VSD’s were upgraded across the site to ensure the correct PL rating.
The Result
A 90% drop in fossil fuel use & 68% reduction in CO² emissions for all of Fletcher Steel. A higher production rate, as well as an overall energy saving is enabled through the ability to turn the heat on instantaneously, as opposed to keeping the old gas-powered ovens on continuously, for long periods of time.
