Pump Refurbishment
The Challenge
Our team recently undertook the annual task of performing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on several key pieces of equipment at a community water facility. The job involved routine servicing and inspection of four 350kW pumps, which play a pivotal role in the facility's day-to-day operations. In addition three 160kW pumps, smaller in size but crucial for maintaining operational balance. We also focused on the 500kW Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) associated with these pumps. These VSDs are important for controlling the pump speeds and ensuring energy-efficient operations. Our aim was to keep these components functioning efficiently, thereby supporting the continuous and smooth operation of the facility, ensuring it meets the community's needs without any significant interruptions or safety issues.
Our Solution
In collaboration with our Contractors, we executed the safe disconnection of the pumps for the necessary maintenance procedures. This included working on the substantial pumps, their wiring, and related components. The Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) and the Motor Control Centers (MCCs) received servicing strictly following Schneider Electric's guidelines.
Post-maintenance, we focused on careful reinstallation and commissioning. Our team adhered to the highest standards of precision and safety, ensuring a seamless and secure restart of the system.
The Result
The maintenance work played a crucial role in sustaining the operational reliability of the pumps, a critical factor for the seamless functioning of a renowned Waterpark. Both professional athletes and leisure paddlers benefit from the robust system, experiencing the thrill of navigating through rapids propelled by 10.5 cubic meters per second (m3/s) of water leading to the short course's starting pond. In contrast, the long course receives a powerful flow of 16.0 m3/s, with 4.0 m3/s exclusively allocated to creating a spectacular waterfall.
